Oliver M. Tuazon, M.S. LL.M.

Of Counsel

Atty. Oliver Tuazon serves as Of Counsel to the Firm, contributing over two decades of experience in scientific research, legal practice, leadership, and interdisciplinary policy work.

 

Atty. Oliver holds an LL.M. in Forensics, Criminology, and Law (cum laude) from Maastricht University, a Juris Doctor (cum laude) from the University of Santo Tomas, a Master of Science in Microbiology—with coursework at the University of

the Philippines (Diliman campus) and thesis research conducted at the Massachusetts General Hospital under a Harvard Medical School professor—and a Bachelor of Science in Fish Processing Technology (cum laude) from University of the Philippines in the Visayas. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Center for Law and Digital Technologies (eLaw) at Leiden University, the Netherlands, where his research focuses on the right to privacy as applied to the law enforcement technique for criminal identification, investigative forensic genetic genealogy (iFGG), within the framework of the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

 

Atty. Oliver interned at a regional trial court and was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2018, earning a Bar GWA of 86.05%. His legal expertise spans litigation, corporate and tax advisory, criminal and family-estate matters, and regulatory work. He previously served as an Associate Lawyer and later as Special Counsel at a full-service law firm at the Ortigas central business district. He has also been a board member and held senior leadership positions in foundations in the Philippines. He is currently the Chairman of Stichting Grotius in the Netherlands, and the Executive Director of its key project, the Grotius Leadership Institute.

Atty. Oliver’s background in science, ethics and law enables him to analyze legal issues in a more holistic way, where scientific, technological, ethical and evidentiary complexities are involved.

 

Criminal, Corporate, Tax, and Family–Estate Matters

He has handled a broad spectrum of cases, including criminal litigation, tax matters, corporate compliance, administrative investigations, family disputes, and estate administration.

 

Regulatory, Policy, and Governance Advisory

He has served as a consultant at the House of Representatives, a special consultant to a faculty of law, and an informal consultant to various family businesses and leadership undertakings. His nonprofit leadership work focuses on mentoring, principled leadership formation, project management and development, and building and strengthening governance structures.

 

Academic and Research Leadership

He also conducts research on data protection, privacy, investigative forensic genetic genealogy, rule of law and jurisprudential analysis, contributing to global academic discourse through publications in leading journals such as the Journal of Law and the Biosciences (Oxford University Press), Forensic Science International: Synergy (Elsevier) and International Data Privacy Law (Oxford University Press). He has also written pieces at the Leiden Law Blog, and (co)authored books and book chapters, the latest of which is published by Elsevier. He has also served as a reader to master’s theses at the Advanced LL.M. program on Law and Digital Technologies at the Leiden Law School covering topics such audio deepfake technology, copyright law for AI-generated art, AI motion capture, digital resurrection, crypto-asset service providers, and non-fungible tokens.
